Myth 1 - Employment Act Applies To All Employees
The Employment Act only applies to Employees earning up to $4,500/- monthly (excluding Sailors, Maids, Civil Servants) whether they work full-time, part-time, on contract or as freelancers.
Myth 2 - All Employees Can Claim Overtime.
Only Manual workers earning up to $4,500/- monthly or Office workers earning up to $2,500/- monthly can claim overtime for working beyond normal working hours daily.
Myth 3 - There Is No Limit To Hours Of Work Or Overtime
You can only work average of 44 hours weekly over a 2 or 3 week period, with maximum of 72 hours of overtime in a month.
Myth 4 - CPF Is Only Payable For Full-Time Workers
CPF is payable for all workers who are Singapore Citizen or PR, even if they are part-time, contract or freelance workers.
Myth 5 - Only Mothers Can Claim Childcare Leave
Both Parents can claim this, for each child (who is Singapore Citizen) until child turns 7. Leave is maximum of 6 days per year for each Parent.
